upcoming gigs

July has been a crazy month! I moved across town, I’ve been fighting an ongoing battle with strep throat, I’m getting ready and filling out all sorts of paperwork for grad school, and I’ve been playing lots of fun summer shows. This week is going to be a bit of a marathon in itself:

This afternoon (Sunday, August 4th), I’m playing at a block party in Cambridge with Ezekiel’s Wheels. It’s a beautiful day, so it will hopefully be a great evening of music and neighbors.

Tomorrow (Monday, August 5th), I’ll be playing at Radio with Greg Klyma and a bunch of folks he brings together every week for his Americana Monday series. I sat in last Monday, too, and it was fun–it’s a free show and we play from 8 til 11 pm.

On Tuesday (August 6th), I’ll be at the Newton Public Library with Ezekiel’s Wheels. Also a free show, we’ll be starting at 7:30 pm.

To continue our mini-library tour (a small tour of libraries, not a tour of small libraries), Ezekiel’s Wheels will be playing at the Framingham Library on Wednesday (August 7th) at 7 pm. This one’s also free and open to the public.

On Saturday (August 10th), I’ll be headed out to Amherst with Amy Kucharik to play for the Northeast Organic Farming Association’s Summer Conference. Part of the Saturday night entertainment includes a blues/swing dance, and we’ll be providing music from 9 pm til midnight.

Finally, on Sunday (August 11th), Cold Chocolate will be playing at the Pembroke Arts Festival in Pembroke, MA starting at 1 pm.

cold chocolate tonight, king of the schnorrers saturday

261855_393428420756686_308283697_nCold Chocolate is back in town after a successful weekend tour to New Hampshire and Vermont last weekend. Tonight, we’re back at one of our favorite places to play in town, John Harvard’s Brew House in Harvard Square. We’ll have Frank Drake on mandolin filling in for James, and we’ll be starting at 9:30 and going all night. As always, there’s no cover and it’s a great spot, so drop by if you’re around!

Then, on Saturday, I’m playing some klezmer string arrangements with Abigale Reisman and Rachel Panich to open for the production of King of the Schnorrers on Saturday. We’ll be playing entrance music starting at 7 pm outside of the Modern Theatre at Suffolk University downtown. Abigale and Rachel are both amazing violinists, it’ll be a fun set. And then stick around for the actual show, too–it’s free and part of the Outside the Box festival.

Stay tuned for more info about gigs for the rest of the month, too–I’m excited about a bunch of great shows with Cold Chocolate, Amy Kucharik, Greg Klyma, and Kristen Ford!

cold chocolate weekend tour, part 2

941637_373492316083630_252037302_nThe past couple weeks have been super busy with shows, recording sessions for Ezekiel’s Wheels, Amy Kucharik, Clinton Degan, and some other even newer stuff (with no band name yet…). I’m also recovering from strep throat, which is no fun–I’m actually not playing tonight’s first gig of this weekend’s Cold Chocolate tour so I can get through the rest of the weekend. I’ll be playing with them tomorrow through Saturday nights, though, in our second weekend tour of the summer. Here are the details:

Tonight (June 12th), I’m sitting in with Exile on Elm Street at the front room of the Burren. It’ll be a good time–there’s no cover and we’ll be playing tunes from 9 pm until midnight.

Tomorrow (June 13th), I’ve got two shows. In the morning, I’ll be playing with Animal Farm for the first time in quite a while. We’ll be performing at the Fore River Club House in Quincy, MA starting at 10 am. That evening, Cold Chocolate is back at John Harvard’s Brew House in Cambridge, one of our favorite places to play. We’ll be starting at 9:30 pm and playing til close.

Then on Saturday morning (June 15th), Ezekiel’s Wheels will be playing our first farmer’s market of the season. We’ll be at the Egleston Square Farmers Market in JP starting at 10 am and going until 2 pm. It’s a new market, and we’re excited to check it out–hope to see you there, too!

Cold Chocolate weekend tour

This weekend I’m headed off with Cold Chocolate on a short east coast tour. We’ll be promoting our EP This Old Way along with debuting a bunch of newer material from the upcoming full-length album. Here’s where we’ll be:247643_371413862958142_255130302_n

Tomorrow (Thursday, May 30th), we’re playing at Joe Squared in Baltimore. We played here the last time we were in Maryland and it was a great spot. We’ll be starting off the show at 9:30 pm and will be followed by Moonshower By Proxy, an instrumental Red Hot Chili Peppers cover band.

On Friday (May 31st), we’ll be at The Minstrel, the Folk Project’s weekly concert series in Morristown, NJ. We’re opening for Suzie Vinnick and playing two short sets–one at the beginning of the first half, and the other at the beginning of the second half.

On Saturday (June 1st), we’ll be in New York City at Pianos, where we’ve played once before. It’s an early show, starting at 7 pm with King Stork, and then we’ll be playing starting at 8:30 pm.

Hope to see you in one of those cities in the next few days!

This coming weekend I have a few shows that I’m excited about:

On Saturday (May 18th), I’ll be playing all night at Toad in Porter Square. First, I’ll be playing the early set with Amy Kucharik starting at 7:30 pm. We’ll be playing a mix of her originals as well as covers of swing and blues standards. This set will be fun since it’ll be featuring all the ladies of the band. Afterward, I’ll have a short break before the late set, which I’m playing with the Kristen Ford Band from 10 pm til 1 am. The two shows actually got booked independently from one another, but I think they’ll be pretty complementary. As always, there’s no cover, so you can feel free to drop by at any point throughout the evening to hear some great live music!

Then on Sunday (May 19th), I’ll be headed out to the Bluegrass on the Bogs Festival with Cold Chocolate. It’s a weekend-long festival held at Camp Kiwanee in Hanson, MA. We’ll be playing a set from noon until 1 pm on Sunday on the main stage.

Mierlita and Cold Chocolate this weekend

Tonight (May 10th), I’m excited to be playing at Romanian Night at the Folk Arts Center of New England’s weekly Friday night dance in Arlington. I’ll be playing with three-quarters of Mierlita, the Moldovan gypsy jazz quartet (we’ll just have one fiddler instead of two tonight). We’ll be playing a concert set during the break between dance sets.

Tomorrow (May 11th), I’ll be at Toad in Cambridge with Cold Chocolate. We’re playing the late set, starting around 10 pm and going until 1 am. As always, it’s a free show and a great bar, so drop by!
