Kirsten Lamb is an award-winning double bassist, vocalist, and educator praised by the Boston Globe for her “versatility and assurance”.
As a soloist, Kirsten performs original works for double bass and voice. She has debuted material at the Massachusetts State House and the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston, and The Stone in New York City. Many prominent musicians have taken note of Lamb’s unique music, including Elvis Costello who hailed her song “Mirror Child” as “wonderful, extraordinary, [and] beautiful.”
Also a sought-after collaborator, Kirsten has performed with many notable musicians including Itzhak Perlman, John Zorn, Theodore Bikel, Andy Statman, Celtic Woman, and Gil Scott-Heron’s Midnight Band. She is the bassist and lead vocalist with the internationally-renown Ezekiel’s Wheels Klezmer Band, with whom she won multiple awards at the International Jewish Music Festival (NL) and was a featured soloist with the Aalborg Symphony Orchestra (DK). Kirsten is also an active member of Klezperanto, Rumbarroco, and Zili Misik. With ensembles, she has performed at venues around the globe including the Kennedy Center (DC), Kauffman Center (MO), National Sawdust (NYC), Musikkens Hus (DK), Oregon Country Fair (OR), ŠtetlFest (CZ), National Women’s Music Festival (WI), and the Rochester International Jazz Festival (NY).
An avid educator, Kirsten maintains a private studio and performs educational programs through Arts for Learning Massachusetts. She has taught weekly residencies at Horizons for Homeless Children and the Brookline Early Education Program, and has served on faculty at summer festivals including KlezKanada and New England Conservatory’s JazzLab. Kirsten is also a frequent guest teaching artist and workshop leader at universities and grade schools.
Kirsten holds a Master of Music in Contemporary Improvisation from New England Conservatory, where she was awarded the Gunther Schuller Medal upon graduation for “extraordinary contributions” to the school. She earned a Bachelor of Music in Double Bass Performance and Ethnomusicology from Oberlin Conservatory.
